Nurses Make Good Money Today

by Adriana Noton on September 3, 2010

Nurses are in demand these days. There is a shortage of nurses today. If you are trying to choose a great career, you will do well to consider nursing. The nursing field offers a good income and job security. They also enjoy job satisfaction.

You have many choices when looking for a nursing school. The community college in your area probably has a nursing program. But you can expect a waiting list when you apply for the classes. Many people are going into nursing and the schools are full. But you can also look at a private vocational school which usually has openings.

The private vocational school must be accredited if you want to be able to sit for the state board licensing exam. The school you attend should prepare you to pass this exam.

Once you become a nurse or LVN, you can work full time or part time. The next level of nursing is registered nurse. The registered nurse achieves this level by taking classes while working in a hospital as a LVN.

Many large hospitals have registered nurses in their key departments. They might hire regular nurses but require that they work their way to becoming a registered nurse. The registered nurse earns more money but also has more responsibility.

The registered nurse can then study to be a nurse practitioner. This position requires a masters degree in nursing. It is a high paying job relative to other nursing positions.

There are other areas of nursing that are available. Many like working in a home health care setting where they perform patient care for people in their homes. As the population ages, there are many who need a nurse either on a part or full time basis to administer medication or to care for them generally.

There are also needs in the physical therapy field. The nurse in physical therapy helps people with their exercises in order to help those who have been injured restore their body movement. Many people need to learn how to walk again or how to function as they did before an injury or illness.

If you want to get into a good field, look at nursing as a career. But do not look at this career only as a good source of income or one that has job security. This job is all about taking care of people in their time of need. You need to want to help people. You have to like people if you want to go into this career. If not, you will not last.

There are many going into the field because the job market is in bad shape. There are not many jobs that are actually in demand today. Health care is unique in this regard. But many are going into nurse staffing with the wrong intent. They want to make good money and have a steady job. Before you go into this career, make sure you want to take care of people in need.
