Angular Cheilitis is a problem, that anyone undergoing would like to be taken care of immediately. It is not because the disease is deadly. Not cause it’s contagious. The main reason is that, it greatly restricts even simple movements due to the pain involved. Not only does this disease physical tormentation, it also affects the social life of the person by far. Don’t panic, it’s curable now.
First of all, chapped lips considered to be the visible symptom of Angular Cheilitis, should be taken care of. Applying a paraffin-based lotion or cream in the affected area helps.
Consult a physician to suggest the medication and medicines that can be taken to address the problem and restore the shape of your mouth. The commonly suggested anti-fungal drugs are:
1. Ketoconazole – This drug is anti-fungal and are available at pharmacy outlets with names as Nizoral, Mycelex, and Monista. This works its healing process on the affected area by altering the cell wall of the fungus that keeps on attacking the body of the affected person. By doing so, the fungus will eventually be damaged and will disappear.
2. Nystatin – The names commonly used to refer it is Mycolog, Mycostatin, and Nilstat. An anti-biotic, it works to fight the infections caused by the fungi or it’s sub-classes. Typical prescription would allow the patient to take this orally three to five times daily. It can be applied more frequently because it is not as strong and not as damaging to the bacteria as the other drugs are. Based on your preference, you can get it as liquid/tablet.
3. Triazole – This can be bought as Fluconazole and Itraconazole at commercial outlets. Itraconazole is the only drug that requires close monitoring and should be consumed until the disease expires himself. The other drug used is Fluconazole, which needs to be taken for few days initially.
